Some Success Secrets

A CEO’s 3 Perspective on Success | By Kristen Haldeman | November 12, 2019

Anthony McCarley, founder and CEO of McCarley International, carries a perspective on success that is different than that of society. He believes that success is not based on the quantity of what you have, but the quality.

During a conversation with Anthony, he discussed three secrets that guide him in his pursuit of this type of successful business and life. Because we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to better themselves, we thought we would give you the inside scoop.

1.    Be comfortable and confident with who you are.

When we think of someone who is successful, we often envision an overflow of money or fame or a man in a tight blue suit with a bright red cape. However, this is not what Anthony sees. “I don’t mean that being comfortable with yourself is the way to become successful.  I meant that being comfortable with yourself means you are successful.” The blue-suit-red-cape or black suit black tie can be very appealing, but jealousy is a poor foundation for great achievement. Attempting to achieve the gold medal in every single competition, you will not have the energy to properly train for any single one and will potentially fail at all of them. Changing the perspective of being the best at everything to the best at one thing will drastically influence the path of success for any person or business. “There is always someone prettier, faster, tougher, richer, taller, shorter, thinner, curvier, stronger, etc., etc. So success means you are comfortable with yourself.  I am who I am – I have what I have – I have done what I have done.  And I am good with it.”

2. There are not actually three secrets, there are five.

The things that make a person successful are the same things that make a business successful.

According to Anthony, the fundamentals include:

  •  Knowing that you are in control of your life, and as we know, with control comes responsibility. You are in control and are responsible for the decisions you make and the consequences of those decisions.

  •  Accepting that you are human and go forward.  You are human; and therefore, you have made mistakes in life. There is nothing to do to change your past.  Forgive yourself for being human, reflect and look forward.

  •  Focusing on helping people. Look at someone like Bill Gates, one of the richest people in the world, and his work brought computing into our everyday lives.  What amazing advancements society has made because of him. The key is that the focus was not on the product itself, but the people that the product would benefit. Money doesn’t make you successful, the people that you help are, and how can’t you be happy when you’re helping others?

  •  Always dealing in reality – do not lie to yourself, but focus on the present and making the most of it. You can’t make up wasted time, so enjoy it and do something with it.

  •  Being grateful for all you have.  Avoid jealousy.  Express gratitude – it is the best foundation for growth.

“These are the same in business and in life. Consistency is important. Harmony is important.

While there may be more secrets, these are the five that have impacted Anthony and his development of McCarley International.

3. It’s about people.

Even though ‘people’ were already mentioned as a subsecret in #2, it is so important that it deserves its own spotlight. The people in his life are the reason that McCarley International has grown to where it is and the clients are the reason it continues to grow.“My ability to put the interest of our clients above the interests of the firm is what creates trust that allows for growth.” The book that Anthony is in the process of writing consists of stories of how learning from others and implementing an “other’s first” attitude alters the growth pattern exponentially and brings heightened personal fulfillment.

Being a successful person or running a successful business does not require any super suit. It means being comfortable in the skin you are already wearing and focusing on others.
